The Studio

We're always trying out new ideas in clay or wax, most don't make it as far as being a lamp.

The Real Archie

This Archie turning up at our studio in Dalston for a modelling session. He brought his owners along with him. We'd assumed it would be hard to keep a whippet still for more than a few minutes but a quick mad-dash around London Fields and he was as good as gold for the rest of the day.

An Early Blake in Wax

This is an early wax casting of Blake. We were experimenting with inlaying stripes at this stage but the effect wasn't quite what we were after. It's always tricky showing people models at this stage as our modelling wax is this dark, none-too-pleasant looking greeny colour.

Black Diego

We just love this photo but a Diego in black was a bit of an experiment for us, as you can see the extremities stay dark when he's lit up which we weren't at all sure about until a visitor pointed out that Schnauzers naturally have quite similar markings.

Blake in Day-Glo Orange

This is a prototype Blake back from Heico. Some models are 'jelly-bean' white that are then sprayed and others are dyed plastic. Getting the right amount of dye can be quite tricky and this one was a bit OTT. We've toned the photo down a bit but in reality we needed sunglasses to see him.

Archie Lit Up

Archie as a lamp is a very tall, elegant creature. The standard lamp fitting keeps the bulb low which means his body lights up but the head stays a much cooler colour. Normally we'd place the bulb on a metal tube to raise it further into the body but, a bit like the black diego above, we really liked the effect.

Archie Looking Cool

We took the prototype Archie over the road to some friends that have a very funky, orange basement. The picture wasn't quite good enough for the project page but we like it.

Blake at London Zoo

This is a prototype Blake at 21st Century Tiger's head office in London Zoo. We found a passing Zoo Keeper to pose with him for us. sadly Helen specialises in bugs more than Tigers.

Light Art Pups

We're experimenting with these mini lamps right now. Not sure when they'll be on the market as we need to find the right fittings but everyone who sees them, loves them so we'll keep you posted.
